Last year, I created the “Who to Watch” list, which spotlighted 16 creatives or entrepreneurs from Reading, PA. In honor of the new list approaching, I followed up with the 2018 class to see what they’ve done since we started watching them.
How has your company/ brand/ you grown?
Curly Sisterhood has grown in many ways this year. We launched our accessories brand and website. We hosted three amazing events including: our first in-person live at Mi Casa su Casa, Curls and Cocktails at Crowne Plaza and our anniversary event at Always Fashion Boutique which all brought the curly community of Reading together. We also attended multiple events including: CurlFest in NYC, Texture on the Runway powered by Sally Beauty and Naturally Curly and Team Natural Hair and Wellness Tour in Philly. It was a great year of bringing curls to our city and also meeting other curlies from other states.
What did you accomplish this year?
Our biggest accomplishment this year was launching www.curlysisterhood.com. We are so proud of our website which we curated ourselves. We are also excited to see other curlies rocking their curlysisterhood t-shirts and satin scrunchies. We are thankful for the amazing community we have reached this year and feel grateful to be able to share our experiences with them every day.
What is the biggest lesson you learned?
The biggest lesson we learned as a social community was staying true to what we love and believe in. Social media has many trends and distractions and we learned to focus on our authenticity and focus on what we are passionate about.
Has your “why” changed?
Our initial approach changed from blogging every day to rather educate about the lifestyle changes that surround embracing your natural hair. We became more involved in the overall curly lifestyle that made us invest more time on researching important topics to better serve and educate our social community.
What’s next for 2019?
We have lots of exciting plans for 2019. One of them is kicking the year off with another educational event hosted locally. We will share all the details very soon. We have taken time to keep learning and educate ourselves to support the growing curly community.
