Poem: Done

Done are the days of being scared
To start new
Done are the days of holding back
Covering what is true
Done are the days of devaluing my worth
In order to hold others up
Done are the days of being loyal
Enough is enough

Sometimes we convince ourselves
That nothing last forever
But in this convincing
We also manage to get complacent
Accepting things as they are
Because we’re willing to wait
Willing to let things go on
Because we’re afraid to be abrasive

In our complacency
We put up with shit
And begin to hide
Suddenly forgetting all the qualities
That make us shine
We get comfortable in routine
Afraid to explore
Afraid to be stuck in the in between

But that is coming to an end
I’m no longer a place holder
For my future self
I’m no longer comfortable with being
Comfortable
I’m breaking out this box
Fear put me in
I’m shedding the skin
Ready to again begin
Done are the days of the old me
Ahead are the days of who I’m meant to be
