Poetry Tuesday: Being The Bigger Person

Written December 18, 2012

being the bigger person
means that you have to separate yourself from ego.
you have to accept that if you forgive someone, you let go of the hurt they caused.
you don’t scheme to get even, or make them feel that way.
you have to let go of all the negative and make way for new positives.
because people make mistakes and forgiving them can also be a mistake
sometimes people don’t change, other times they do
sometimes they use you, and sometimes you use them
but if you let them in your life, knowing these things
you must accept the truth of  these things
you must accept that these things will have consequences that affect your life
you must accept the fact that you signed the x, the dotted line
that you willingly let the devil in again.
you must accept the fact that although sorry’s have been said
and apologies have been bled
the fact of the matter doesn’t change
what hurt you before will hurt you again
because i’m sorry’s don’t change feelings
and i’m sorry’s don’t change facts
i’m sorry’s don’t replace
feelings that didn’t exist.

being the bigger person means
that sometimes you let your heart win
against your mind
because although mind knows best
heart loves deeper
and knows the intimacies
that the mind over looks
that the mind over analyzes
being the bigger person means
trusting your gut above all
even if it ends up being wrong
because being the bigger person means
accepting that not all that is good isn’t bad
and not all that is bad isn’t good.
